'Monkstadt' cushion - rust

'Monkstadt' cushion - rust

from £74.90

Snuggle up to this luxuriously soft cushion, handwoven by Maggie MacLean, at Westcoast Weavers. The warp is made up of merino lambswool, whilst there are two different blends of yarn in the weft. One is a merino lambswool / cashmere mix, whilst the ‘pattern’ yarn is a soft merino / kid mohair blend, with wonderful flecks and nubs running through it. (mulesing free)

It is woven using a really old weave structure called monksbelt. It’s believed that the technique was used for the belts of monks in monasteries; apparently the various positions of the patterns and blocks designated the attainment of the monk who made and wore the woven belt. We’re not sure how much truth there is behind this but it does make some lovely patterns! It seemed apt to name this design ‘Monkstadt’, which is situated on the northern tip of the Trotternish Peninsula and was built near the site of a small ancient monastery.

Backed with a soft pre-washed linen, with an invisible zip closure, it comes complete with an eco-friendly wool filled cushion inner, from award winning company "Woolsoft".

Designed and handwoven on the Isle of Skye.

Please hand wash or dry-clean.
